My Guide to Being Home Alone

11:24 AM

*Poor Emma has been stressing out over posting most of the posts on this blog, so this is my attempt of making a somewhat interesting/readable post, which in other words is saying it will probably bore you*

I suppose I should have been supportive of my brother and gone to his basketball game...but really, I was tired and basketball is not my thing. Fortunately, I am old enough to stay home alone. These are my five steps to fully enjoying a for-once peaceful and quiet house.

1. Make hot chocolate -- Swiss Miss is the best as long as you use water and never, ever milk

2.  Grab The Fellowship of the Ring and start reading before your brother gets home and steals it

3. Even though a quiet house is what you are always longing for, it'll still feel weird. Listen to some songs for a bit of background music -- might as well continue with the Lord of the Rings theme. (And seriously, "Concerning Hobbits" is a very relaxing song. Especially when you are trying to learn it on the piano and can hear it played correctly for once.)

4. Study for your story -- scouring baby name books/websites is a great way to spend the day, even if you eventually resort to making up your own names that fit the characters better. Writing down specifics about characters and doodling is fun too. :)

5. Write a blog post about what you did when you were home alone -- it's fun.

  1. You are such an adorable nerd. =) Although I agree with hot chocolate and blankets. Not so much with your book/music selection. I was scared noodles when I arrived after work and I heard Lord of the Rings blasting in the living room!!

  2. You missed a great cultural experience of listening to inappropriate rap music blasted at 1000 decibels during the pre-basketball game warm up. Other than that, it was a great game even though Christian's team got smashed. I'm sure he'll forgive you for not supporting him, as long as you attend at least ONE game during the season, offering your most sincere loud yelling and applause.

But in the end, looks like you had a wonderful afternoon. And I will definitely be looking forward to reading that story someday!

  3. Well Sarah, this is not boring, that's for sure!! ;)
Now there are some things I would change around:
    1. (I do not agree on) I'm old enough to stay at home alone, but Mom told me to NOT turn on the stove, oven, light candles, etc.
I agree on the other stuff, but I would rather turn on some music and do some dance moves, or I would bang on the ivories or I would catch up on creative writing or (last one) ;) sing. There... Finally finished. :D

    1. Well.....our hot chocolate already comes in a mix, so all you have to do is add water that can be heated in the microwave. So...I just used the microwave. And the sink. Anyway. :)

    2. Oh, we don't have a microwave!! That is probably the worst part of our kitchen. :/
